Stock Market: Ecobank, Dangote Sugar Join Top Losers List, A

 

The Nigerian stock market traded 3,523 deals today at a high volume of 232.6 million units, surpassing the 155.5 million units it recorded on Tuesday. The volume also surpassed the 189.69 million units it recorded on Monday, thereby, recording a rise in the value of trades, which closed at N4.6 billion on Wednesday, July 8, 2020. The Nigerian bourse had closed yesterday with a value of N2.60 billion. The All Share Index also rose from yesterday's 24,097.48 index points to 24,278.07.

Top Five Gainers

Julius Berger led the top gainers' chart after its stock price gained N1.55 kobo to close trading at N17.2 kobo per share after opening today's trading with N15.65 kobo per share, this is according to NSE market data seen by AllNews. GTBank was second on the table, as its stock price gained N1.45 kobo to close the market with N22.5 kobo per share, having started trading today with N21.05 kobo per share.

WAPCO was the third top gainer as its stock price closed the market with N1 gain to move from the opening price of N10  per share to N11 per share. Okomu Oil came next, closing the market with a gain of 1.15% to end trading with N70.5 kobo per share from the open share price of N69.7 kobo per share. Zenith Bank was last on the top five gainers table after its share price rose from N16.35 kobo per share to close trading at N16.65; representing a change of 1.83%.

Top Five Losers

The top on the losers list was Berger Paints, which had begun trading earlier today at N6.75 kobo per share, only to drop in price by -9.63% to close at N6.1 kobo per share at the end of trading today. Flour Mill was second on the chart losing -2.70% in share price to close at N18 per share after opening trading at N18.5 kobo per share. Ecobank closed the stock market at N4.6 kobo per share after shielding off N-0.2 kobo to drop from the opening price of N4.8 kobo per share.

Dangote Sugar also recorded a slight drop in its share price as it declined by -0.85% to close trading at N11.6 kobo per share, below the N11.7 kobo per share it opened with. Caverton completed the top five losers after it closed trading with N1.74 kobo per share, declining by -4.40% from the N1.82 kobo per share it opened trading with.

Top Five Trades

Nigerian banks showed up to the market as they dominated the top five trade list. AllNews learnt that the top trades in the stock market for today were Fidelity Bank which traded volume of over 37.9 million deals worth N67.2 million. MTN Nigeria was the second most traded stock today with over 27.9 million units worth N3.2 billion. WAPCO was next on the list, trading over 23 million units worth N250.4 million.

GTBank was the fourth on the most traded stock list, closing the market with over 18.1 million units traded at cost of N403.6 million, while Zenith Bank completed the list with 16.7 million trade volumes said to be worth N276.4 million.
