Stock Market Today: Breweries Lead Gainers List, Okomu Oil T

The Nigerian stock market closed at 3,194 deals today, Friday, August 21, 2020, higher than the 3,055 deals it closed with on Thursday, August 20, 2020, while the volume reached 158.6 million units at the close of the market today, lower than the 179.5 million units it closed with on Thursday.

The value of trades recorded today was N1.7 billion, lower than the N2.5 billion of Thursday. Meanwhile, the All-Share Index reached 25,221.87 index points today, surpassing the 25,204.60 index points it ended trading with on Thursday.

Top Five Gainers

Nigerian Breweries led the top gainers' chart after its stock price gained NGN1 to close trading at NGN36 per share after opening today's trading with NGN35 per share, this is according to Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) market data seen by AllNews. International Breweries was second on the table, as its stock price gained NGN0.3 kobo to close the market with NGN3.6 kobo per share, having started trading today with NGN3.3 kobo per share.

Unilever was the third top gainer as its stock price closed the market with NGN0.2 kobo gain to move from the opening price of NGN13.75 kobo per share to NGN13.95 kobo per share. Oando came next, closing the market with a gain of NGN0.11 kobo to end trading with NGN2.35 kobo per share from the opening share price of NGN2.24 kobo per share. UPL was last on the top five gainers' table after its share price rose from N1.13 kobo per share to close trading at N1.24 kobo per share, after gaining NGN0.11 kobo.

Top Five Losers

On the top of losers' list was Okomu Oil, which had begun trading earlier today at NGN80 per share, only to drop in price by NGN-1 to close at NGN79 per share at the end of trading today. Presco was second on the chart after closing at NGN51 per share from its opening trade price of NGN51.5 kobo per share; this represents a drop of NGN-0.5 kobo. UAC Nigeria also recorded a drop in its share price as it declined by NGN-0.35 kobo to close trading at NGN5.5 kobo per share, below the NGN5.85 kobo per share it opened with.

GTBank closed the stock market at NGN25.1 kobo per share after shielding off NGN-0.15 kobo to drop from the opening price of NGN25.25 kobo per share. Zenith Bank completed the top five losers chart after it closed trading with NGN16.8 kobo per share, declining by NGN-0.1 kobo from the NGN16.9 kobo per share it opened trading with.

Top Five Trades

AllNews learnt that the top trades in the stock market for today were Zenith Bank, which traded a volume of over 19 million units worth NGN321.9 million. First Bank was the second most traded stock today with over 17.8 million units worth over NGN89.4 million. GTBank was next on the list, trading 16.1 million units worth N408.7 million.

Nigerian Breweries was the fourth on the most traded stock list, closing the market with over 9.1 million units traded at a cost of over N327.4 million, while Chams completed the top five list with over 8.7 million units traded today, worth N1.7 million.
