Stock Market Today: GTBank Top Losers List As Sterling Bank

 

The Nigerian stock market closed at 4,174 deals today, Tuesday, July 14, 2020, higher than the 3,950 deals it recorded on Monday, July 13, 2020, while the volume dropped to 208.2 million units today, dropping from 231.2 million units it recorded on Monday, thereby, recording a decline in the value of trades, which closed at N1 billion today. The Nigerian bourse had closed on Monday with a value of N2.1 billion. However, the All-Share Index reached 24,114.59 index points compared to the 24,200.60 index points the market closed with on Monday.

Top Five Gainers

Unilever led the top gainers' chart after its stock price gained N1.2 kobo to close trading at N13.65 kobo per share after opening this week's (today) trading with N12.45 kobo per share, this is according to NSE market data seen by AllNews. BUA Cement was second on the table, as its stock price gained N0.25 kobo to close the market with N41.45 kobo per share, having started trading today with N4.12 kobo per share.

Jaiz Bank was the third top gainer as its stock price also closed the market with N0.2 kobo gain to move from the opening price of N0.56 per share to N0.54 kobo per share. Transcorp came next, closing the market with a gain of N0.2 kobo to end trading with N0.64 kobo per share from the open share price of N0.62 kobo per share. NEM Insurance Plc was last on the top five gainers table after its share price rose from N2.05 kobo per share to close trading at N2.06 kobo per share; representing a change of 0.49%.

Top Five Losers

The top on the losers list was GTBank, which had begun trading earlier today at N22 per share, only to drop in price by N-0.7 kobo to close at N21.3 kobo per share at the end of trading today. Zenith Bank remained on the losers table; it was second on the chart losing -3.70% in share price to close at N15.6 kobo per share after opening trading at N16.2 kobo per share. GlaxoSmith closed the stock market at N4.35 kobo per share after shielding off -9.38% to drop from the opening price of N4.8 kobo per share.

Access Bank also recorded a drop in its share price as it declined by -3.17% to close trading at N6.1 per share, below the N6.3 kobo per share it opened with. Africa Prudential completed the top five losers after it closed trading with N4.07 kobo per share, declining by -4.24% from the N4.25 kobo per share it opened trading with.

Top Five Trades

Nigerian banks showed up to the market as they dominated the top five trade list. AllNews learnt that the top trades in the stock market for today were Sterling Bank, which maintained its spot from Friday, trading volume of over 78.9 million units worth N98.6 million. UBA was the second most traded stock today with over 15.7 million units worth over N96 million. Japaul Oil was next on the list, trading over 12.7 million units worth N3.2 million.

First Bank was the fourth on the most traded stock list, closing the market with over 10.9 million units traded at cost of over N56 million, while Zenith Bank despite being on the loser's table today, completed the top five list with over 10.6 million units traded today, worth N167.1 million.
