Stock Market Today: Here Are The Top Five Losers And Gainers

 

The Nigerian stock market closed at 3,648 deals today, Wednesday, July 15, 2020, lower than the 4,174 deals it recorded on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, while the volume stayed at about 208.2 million units today, same as on Tuesday, but the value of trades was N1.7 billion today; it was N1 billion on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the All-Share Index reached 24,130.26 index points today, compared to the 24,114.59 index points the market closed with on Tuesday.

Top Five Gainers

Airtel Africa led the top gainers' chart after its stock price gained N11.3 kobo to close trading at N340 per share after opening this week's (today) trading with N328.7 kobo per share, this is according to NSE market data seen by AllNews. Dangote Sugar was second on the table, as its stock price gained 0.6 kobo to close the market with N12.2 kobo per share, having started trading today with N11.6 kobo per share.

GTBank was the third top gainer as its stock price also closed the market with N0.2 kobo gain to move from the opening price of N21.3 per share to N21.5 kobo per share. Cutix came next, closing the market with a gain of N0.13 kobo to end trading with N1.82 kobo per share from the open share price of N1.69 kobo per share. Access Bank was last on the top five gainers table after its share price rose from N6.1 kobo per share to close trading at N6.15 kobo per share; representing a change of 0.82%.

Top Five Losers

The top on the losers list was Nigerian Brewery, which had begun trading earlier today at N34.05 kobo per share, only to drop in price by N-3.35 kobo to close at N30.7 kobo per share at the end of trading today. Julius Berger was second on the chart losing -1.7% in share price to close at N15.5 kobo per share after opening trading at N17.2 kobo per share. Stanbic IBTC closed the stock market at N29 per share after shielding off -4.13% to drop from the opening price of N30.25 kobo per share.

PZ Cussons also recorded a drop in its share price as it declined by N-0.15 kobo per share to close trading at N4.35 kobo per share, below the N4.5 kobo per share it opened with. Caverton completed the top five losers after it closed trading with N1.83 kobo per share, declining by -6.15% from the N1.95 kobo per share it opened trading with.

Top Five Trades

Nigerian banks showed up to the market as they dominated the top five trade list. AllNews learnt that the top trades in the stock market for today were Sterling Bank, which has maintained its spot since last week Friday, trading volume of over 77.1 million units worth N95.7 million. UBA was the second most traded stock today with over 19.8 million units worth over N119.9 million. Zenith Bank was next on the list, trading over 15.9 million units worth N247.8 million.

First Bank was the fourth on the most traded stock list, closing the market with over 12.8 million units traded at cost of over N64.9 million, while FCMB completed the top five list with over 9.3 million units traded today, worth N17.7 million.
