Stock Market Today: Here Are The Top Five Losers And Gainers

The Nigerian stock market closed at 3,713 deals today, Tuesday, August 25, 2020, higher than the 3,737 deals it closed with on Monday, August 24, 2020, while the volume reached 251.3 million units at the close of the market today, higher than the 251.1 million units it closed with on Monday.

The value of trades recorded today was NGN1.1 billion, lower than the NGN2.3 billion of Monday. Meanwhile, the All-Share Index reached 25,291.73 index points today, surpassing the 25,229.12 index points it ended trading with on Monday.

Top Five Gainers

BUA Cement led the top gainers' chart after its stock price gained NGN1.1 kobo to close trading at NGN40 per share after opening today's trading with NGN38.9 kobo per share, this is according to Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) market data seen by AllNews. Julius Berger was second on the table, as its stock price gained NGN0.5 kobo to close the market with NGN17 per share, having started trading today with NGN16.5 kobo per share.

WAPCO was the third top gainer as its stock price closed the market with NGN0.2 kobo gain to move from the opening price of NGN11.5 kobo per share to NGN11.7 per share. Flour Mill came next, closing the market with a gain of NGN0.2 kobo to end trading with NGN18.7 kobo per share from the opening share price of NGN18.5 kobo per share. NEM was last on the top five gainers' table after its share price rose from N1.87 kobo per share to close trading at N2.05 per share, after gaining NGN0.18 kobo.

Top Five Losers

On the top of the losers' list was BetaGlas, which had begun trading earlier today at NGN61.55 kobo per share, only to drop in price by NGN-6.15 kobo to close at NGN55.4 kobo per share at the end of trading today. C&I Leasing was second on the chart after closing at NGN4 per share from its opening trade price of NGN4.4 kobo per share; this represents a drop of NGN-0.4 kobo. May & Baker also recorded a drop in its share price as it declined by NGN-0.3 kobo to close trading at NGN2.73 kobo per share, below the NGN3.03 per share it opened with.

Vitafoam closed the stock market at NGN5.15 kobo per share after shielding off NGN-0.3 kobo to drop from the opening price of NGN5.45 kobo per share. GTBank completed the top five losers chart after it closed trading with NGN25 per share, declining by NGN-0.2 kobo from the NGN25.2 kobo per share it opened trading with.

Top Five Trades

AllNews learnt that the top trades in the stock market for today were Transcorp, which traded a volume of over 94.8 million units worth NGN52.2 million. UBA was the second most traded stock today with over 33.1 million units worth over NGN216.4 million. Wema Bank was next on the list, trading 14.5 million units worth NGN7.4 million.

Zenith Bank was the fourth on the most traded stock list, closing the market with over 10.4 million units traded at a cost of over NGN176.4 million, while Sterling Bank completed the top five list with over 9.6 million units traded today, worth NGN11.2 million.
