Stock Market Today: Here Are The Top Five Losers And Gainers

The Nigerian stock market closed at 3, 239 deals on Friday, September 11, 2020, lower than the 3,251 deals it closed with on Thursday, September 10, 2020, while the volume reached 212.7 million units at the close of the market today, lower than the 236.4 million units it closed with on Thursday.

The value of trades recorded today was NGN2.278 billion, higher than the NGN1.647 billion of Thursday. Meanwhile, the All-Share Index reached 25,591.95 index points higher than the 25,520.97 index points it ended trading with on Thursday. The stock market also ended with NGN13,350 trillion equity capitalisation today, higher than the NGN13,313 trillion of Thursday.

Top Five Gainers

Stanbic IBTC led the top gainers' chart after its stock price gained NGN1.5 kobo to close trading at NGN40 per share after opening today's trading with NGN38.5 kobo per share, this is according to Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) market data seen by AllNews. Wapco was second on the table, as its stock price gained NGN0.6 kobo to close the market with NGN12.8 kobo per share, having started trading today with NGN12.2 kobo per share.

Flour Mill was the third top gainer as its stock price closed the market with NGN0.35 kobo gain to move from the opening price of NGN19.15 kobo per share to NGN19.5 kobo per share. GTBank came next, closing the market with a gain of NGN0.25 kobo to end trading with NGN25 per share from the opening share price of NGN24.75 kobo per share. Zenith Bank was last on the top five gainers' table after its share price rose from NGN16.95 kobo per share to close trading at NGN17.2 kobo per share, after gaining NGN0.25 kobo.

Top Five Losers

On the top of the losers' list was Cap Plc, which had begun trading earlier today at NGN17.45 kobo per share, only to drop in price by NGN-1.7 kobo to close at NGN15.75 kobo per share at the end of trading today. Julius Berger was second on the chart after closing at NGN15.6 kobo per share from its opening trade price of NGN17 per share; this represents a drop of NGN-1.4 kobo. Ardova also recorded a drop in its share price as it declined by NGN-1.25 kobo to close trading at NGN11.35 kobo per share, below the NGN12.6 kobo per share it opened with.

Guinness closed the stock market at NGN13.5 kobo per share after shielding off NGN-0.5 kobo, to drop from the opening price of NGN14 per share. International Breweries completed the top five losers chart after it closed trading with NGN3.5 kobo per share, declining by NGN0-15 from the NGN3.65 kobo per share it opened trading with.

Top Five Trades

AllNews learnt that the top trades in the stock market for today were Custodian, which traded a volume of over 63 million units worth NGN302.8 million. Zenith Bank was the second most traded stock today with over 17.7 million units worth over NGN303.5 million. Guinness was next on the list, trading 13.6 million units worth NGN185 million.

Transcorp was the fourth on the most traded stock list, closing the market with over 9.2 million units traded at a cost of over NGN5.5 million, while Afriinsure completed the top five list with over 8 million units traded today, worth NGN1.6 million.
