Stock Market Today: Here Are The Top Five Losers And Gainers

The Nigerian Stock Exchange market closed with 4,736 deals on Tuesday, October 20, 2020, lower than the 5,132 deals it closed with on Monday, October 19, 2020. The volume reached 297,31 million units at the close of the market on Tuesday, higher than the 287,30 million units it closed with on Monday.

The value of trades recorded on Tuesday was NGN2,926 billion, lower than the NGN3,398 billion of Monday. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the All-Share Index reached 28,665.82 index points, higher than the 28,658.31 index points it ended trading with on Monday.

The stock market also ended with a NGN14,983 trillion equity capitalisation on Tuesday, higher than the 14,979, 2 trillion recorded on Monday.

Top Five Gainers

Nigerian Breweries led the top gainers' chart after its stock price gained NGN2.3 kobo to close trading at NGN51.5 kobo per share after opening today's trading with NGN49.2 kobo per share, according to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) market data seen by AllNews.

Flour Mills was second on the table, as its stock price gained NGN1 to close the market with NGN23 per share, having started trading today with NGN22 per share.

International Breweries was the third top gainer as its stock price closed the market with NGN0.58 kobo gain to move from the opening price of NGN5.86 per share to NGN6.44 kobo per share. Julius Berger follows, closing the market with a gain of NGN0.45 kobo to end trading with NGN17.35 kobo per share from the opening share price of NGN16.9 kobo per share.

UACN was last on the top five gainers' table after its share price rose from NGN0.3 kobo per share to close trading at NGN7 per share, after gaining NGN6.7 kobo.

Top Five Losers

On the top of the losers' list is Mobil, which had begun trading earlier today at NGN-186.9 kobo per share, only to drop in price by NGN-8.6 kobo to close at NGN178.3 kobo per share at the end of trading today.

Guinness was second on the chart after closing at NGN17 per share from its opening trade price of NGN17.65 kobo per share; this represents a drop of NGN-0.65 kobo. GTBank also recorded a drop in its share price as it declined by NGN-0.4 kobo to close trading at NGN30.4 kobo per share, below the NGN30.8 kobo per share it opened with.

Wapco also recorded a drop in its share price as it declined by NGN-0.4 to close trading at NGN18.1 kobo per share, below the NGN18.5 kobo per share it opened with. Unilever completed the top five losers chart after it closed trading with NGN13.15 kobo per share, declining by NGN-0.35 kobo from the NGN13.5 per share it opened trading with.

Top Five Trades

AllNews learnt that the top trades in the stock market for today were UBA, which traded a volume of over 72.43 million units worth NGN506.80 million. Zenith Bank was the second most traded stock today with over 27.15 million units worth over NGN568.21 million. UACN was next on the list, trading 22.19 million units worth NGN149.44 million.

Access Bank was the fourth on the most traded stock list, closing the market with over 21.76 million units traded at a cost of over NGN170.53 million, while Mutual Benefit completed the top five list with over 19.70 million units traded today, worth NGN3.94 million.
