Stock Market Today: Nigerian Breweries Makes Gainers List, D

The Nigerian stock market closed at 3,221 deals today, Tuesday, September 1, 2020, lower than the 3,854 deals it closed with on Monday, August 31, 2020, while the volume reached 1 billion units at the close of the market today, higher than the 302 million units it closed with on Friday.

The value of trades recorded today was NGN 2.1 billion, lower than the NGN2.6 billion of Monday. Meanwhile, the All-Share Index reached 25,413.95 index points today, higher than the 25,327.13 index points it ended trading with on Monday.

Top Five Gainers

Nigerian Breweries led the top gainers' chart after its stock price gained NGN2 to close trading at NGN39 per share after opening today's trading with NGN37 per share, this is according to Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) market data seen by AllNews. Stanbic IBTC was second on the table, as its stock price gained NGN0.45 kobo to close the market with NGN36.5 kobo per share, having started trading today with NGN36.05 per share.

Wapco was the third top gainer as its stock price closed the market with NGN0.3 kobo gain to move from the opening price of NGN6.25 kobo per share to NGN6.55 kobo per share. UAC Nigeria came next, closing the market with a gain of NGN0.25 kobo to end trading with NGN5.95 kobo per share from the opening share price of NGN5.7 kobo per share. Ecobank was last on the top five gainers' table after its share price rose from NGN3.9 kobo per share to close trading at NGN4.15 kobo per share, after gaining NGN0.25 kobo.

Top Five Losers

On the top of the losers' list was Dangote Cement, which had begun trading earlier today at NGN134.9 kobo per share, only to drop in price by NGN-0.9 kobo to close at NGN134 per share at the end of trading today. UBN was second on the chart after closing at NG5 per share from its opening trade price of NGN5.3 kobo per share; this represents a drop of NGN-0.3 kobo. PZ Cussons also recorded a drop in its share price as it declined by NGN-0.1 kobo to close trading at NGN4.1 kobo per share, below the NGN4.2 kobo per share it opened with.

May & Baker closed the stock market at NGN2.93 kobo per share after shielding off -2.33%, to drop from the opening price of NGN3 per share. International Brew completed the top five losers chart after it closed trading with NGN3.65 kobo per share, declining by -1.35% from the NGN3.7 kobo per share it opened trading with.

Top Five Trades

AllNews learnt that the top trades in the stock market for today were UAC Property, which traded a volume of over 947.7 million units worth NGN663.6 million. Access Bank was the second most traded stock today with over 22.7 million units worth over NGN144.9 million. GTBank was next on the list, trading 10.4 million units worth NGN279.4 million.

Fidelity Bank was the fourth on the most traded stock list, closing the market with over 8.4 million units traded at a cost of over NGN14.8 million, while Lasaco completed the top five list with over 8 million units traded today, worth NGN2 million.
