Stock Market Today: Seplat Leads Gainers' List As BUA Cement

The Nigerian stock market closed at 3.636 deals today, Wednesday, August 12, 2020, lower than the 3,925 deals it closed with on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, while the volume reached 204.8 million units at the close of the market today, below the 206.6 million units it closed with on Tuesday.

The value of trades recorded today was N3.8 billion, higher than the N2.4 billion of Tuesday. Meanwhile, the All-Share Index reached 25,141.48 index points today, surpassing the 24,883.70 index points it ended trading with on Tuesday.

Top Five Gainers

Seplat led the top gainers' chart after its stock price gained N35 to close trading at N385 per share after opening today's trading with N350 per share, this is according to NSE market data seen by AllNews. Airtel Africa was second on the table, as its stock price gained N32 to close the market with N380 per share, having started trading today with N348 per share.

Presco was the third top gainer as its stock price closed the market with N3.5 kobo gain to move from the opening price of N48 per share to N51.5 kobo per share. Okomu Oil came next, closing the market with a gain of N3 to end trading with N80 per share from the opening share price of N77 per share. Guinness was last on the top five gainers' table after its share price rose from N14.5 kobo per share to close trading at N15.4 kobo per share, after gaining N0.9 kobo.

Top Five Losers

The top on the losers' list was BUA Cement, which had begun trading earlier today at N38.95 kobo per share, only to drop in price by N-0.25 kobo to close at N38.7 kobo per share at the end of trading today. Access was second on the chart after closing at N6.4 kobo per share from its opening trade price of N6.55 kobo per share; this represents a drop of N-0.15 kobo. Zenith Bank also recorded a drop in its share price as it declined by N-0.1 kobo to close trading at N16.75 kobo per share, below the N16.85 kobo per share it opened with.

Champion Brew closed the stock market at N0.78 kobo per share after shielding off -9.30% to drop from the opening price of N0.86 kobo per share. Ecobank (ETI) completed the top five losers chart after it closed trading with N4.1 kobo per share, declining by -1.20% from the N4.15 kobo per share it opened trading with.

Top Five Trades

AllNews learnt that the top trades in the stock market for today were GTBank, which traded a volume of over 66.2 million units worth N1.6 billion. Access Bank was the second most traded stock today with over 24 million units worth over N155.8 million. Zenith Bank was next on the list, trading 15.2 million units worth N255.3 million.

First Bank was the fourth on the most traded stock list, closing the market with over 13.9 million units traded at a cost of over N70.6 million, while Sterling Bank completed the top five list with over 13.2 million units traded today, worth N15.6 million.
