Stock Market Today:  Seplat Leads Gainers List As Total Tops

The Nigerian stock market closed at 4,222 deals today, Tuesday, August 4, 2020, lower than the 4,718 deals recorded on Monday, August 3, 2020. While the volume dropped to 154.4 million units today, from the 186.4 million units of the day before, the value of trades was N1.4 billion today, higher than the N1.3 billion recorded the previous day. Meanwhile, the All-Share Index reached 24,841.94 index points on Tuesday, higher than the 24,766.12 index points of Monday.

Top Five Gainers

Seplat led the top gainers' chart after its stock price gained N10.8 kobo to close trading at N321 per share after opening today's trading with N310.2 kobo per share, this is according to NSE market data seen by AllNews. Nigerian Brewery was second on the table, as its stock price gained N1 to close the market with N32 per share, having started trading today with N31 kobo per share.

Flour Mill was the third top gainer as its stock price closed the market with N0.75 gain to move from the opening price of N18.75 kobo per share to N19.5 kobo per share. Zenith Bank came next, closing the market with a gain of N0.6 kobo to end trading with N16.95 kobo per share from the opening share price of 16.35 kobo per share. UACN was last on the top five gainers' table after its share price rose from N6.3 kobo per share to close trading at N6.85 kobo per share; representing a change of N0.55 kobo.

Top Five Losers

The top on the losers' list was Total, which had begun trading earlier today at N87.8 kobo per share, only to drop in price by N-8.7 kobo to close at N79.1 kobo per share at the end of trading today. CAP Plc was second on the chart losing N-1.7 kobo in share price to close at N15.4 kobo per share after opening trade at N17.1 kobo per share. Ardova also recorded a drop in its share price as it declined by N-1.3 kobo to close trading at N12.15 kobo per share, below the N13.45 kobo per share it opened with.

Unilever closed the stock market at N11.2 per share after shielding off N-1.05 kobo to drop from the opening price of N12.25 per share. Glaxo Smith completed the top five losers chart after it closed trading with N4.85 kobo per share, declining by N-0.45 kobo from the N5.3 kobo per share it opened trading with.

Top Five Trades

AllNews learnt that the top trades in the stock market for today were Transcorp, which traded volume of over 13.5 million units worth N8 million. First Bank was the second most traded stock today with over 11.7 million units worth over N59.1 million. Lafarge Africa was next on the list, trading 8.9 million units worth N105.2 million.

Nigerian Breweries was the fourth on the most traded stock list, closing the market with over 8.8 million units traded at cost of over N287.8 million, while UBA completed the top five list with over 8.6 million units traded today, worth N43.3 million.
