A yet-to-be-identified disease has hit the Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State, with not less than 11 people dead and five hospitalised.
Reports have it that the disease has symptoms that are close to those of cholera, although, the state government remains uncertain.
The Oyo State Government said that there are still unverifiable conclusions on what the disease could be, as the samples extracted from victims are yet to produce results.
Speaking on the impact of the disease, the Chairman of the Lagelu Local Government Area, Kelani Abdullahi, said that the disease was still being assessed and that the test conducted from samples taken from the victims are yet to produce any results.
He said, “So far, 11 persons have lost their lives to the epidemic, with five persons hospitalised while four persons have been discharged.”

Supporting the comments of the LG chairman, the Oyo State Commissioner for Health, Bashiru Bello, said, “The tests carried out on the affected persons are still premature and the samples collected have not confirmed the sickness to be cholera.”
According to Abdullahi, the people in the area where the disease was identified were reported to not practice proper hygiene.
