Strike: ASUU, FG Fail To Settle Amicably, Return To Court

Strike: ASUU, FG Fail To Settle Amicably, Return To Court

The counsels of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government have returned to the Court of Appeal after their failure to resolve their dispute amicably as suggested by the court.

The Appellate Court on Wednesday advised the lawyers of both parties to settle their impasse outside the court before Thursday's hearing for the sake of Nigerians.

Femi Falana and James Igwe, ASUU and FG's lawyers respectively told the Appellate Court on Thursday that they could not come to an agreement, Punch reports.

The counsels, therefore, consented to the court's hearing of the case as no friendly resolution was reached.

Reacting to the development, Justice Hamma Barka, paused the matter for an hour to allow the counsel for ASUU to file a reply to the counter affidavit deposed to by the FG against the hearing of the appeal.

Falana, at the resumption of the hearing, said consultations had commenced and would continue after the day's proceedings.

The lawyer suggested that ASUU's appeal against the National Industrial Court ruling be heard by the three-man panel of the Appeal Court.
