Strike: Court Rules Out NANS' Suit Against FG, ASUU

The National Industrial Court (NIC) sitting in Abuja on Tuesday ruled out a suit by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) requesting the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government to call off the ongoing industrial action.

The ruling Justice Polycarp Hamman closed proceedings on the matter after its withdrawal by the President of NANS, Umar Faruk Lawal who initially filed the suit.

Lawal who told the court on Tuesday that he filed the case marked NICN/ABJ/273/2022 for himself and on behalf of NANS announced that he had filed for a discontinuance of the suit.

He added that the decision was withdrawn after he faced opposition from NANS, denying his position as the President of the student body.

ASUU was cited as the 1st Respondent, and the Minister of Education and the Attorney-General of the Federation were listed as 2nd and 3rd Respondents, respectively.

The Counsel to ASUU, Marshal Abubakar told the court he was not in opposition to Lawal's application to withdraw the suit, although the other two respondents were not represented.
