The Ministry of Health has responded to the two-week ultimatum given by the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) asking that the federal government meet their demands or risk industrial action.
Speaking at a press conference, Dr Deborah Bitrus-Oghoghorie of the Department of Hospital services stated that the issues being faced by the doctors are financial which the ministry cannot solve on its own.
"The issue we have with the resident doctors are mainly financial issues and because of that, we at the ministry of health can’t handle it alone.
"So, what we’re doing now is to facilitate resolving the issue with the Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning and the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC)", she mentioned.
Speaking further, Bitrus-Oghoghorie assured the aggrieved doctors that the ministry was doing its best to make sure that the strike is averted.
