Strike: Money Spent On Politics Can Meet ASUU's Demands —

Senator Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central has proposed a solution to the industrial action embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Sani, who reacted to President Buhari's statement on the prolonged strike, said the money spent on politics in Nigeria can meet the demands of the union.

The senator through a tweet on Wednesday said “If you can calculate what is spent on politics, you will realise that this country can easily afford to meet the financial demands of ASUU with regards to our public university system.”

ASUU has been on strike for over four months to reiterate its demands from the federal government including the implementation of the 2009 ASUU-FG Agreement and the acceptance of the University Transparency Accountability Solution (UTAS) as its members' payment platform.

President Mohammadu Buhari, speaking on the issue of the prolonged strike said “truly, enough is enough”, stating that Nigerian students have been kept at home for too long.

The statement by the President has attracted reaction, including that of Senator Shehu Sani.
