A 20-year-old student of Uganda Christian Institute, Lira City, who has been on the run after allegedly stabbing his colleague to death, has been arrested in Kapchorwa District.
Ismail Chelangat, an agricultural student, is being held at the Kapchorwa Central Police Station, in Uganda.
On April 14, 2023, he allegedly stabbed Jeremiah Mwanga, 24, to death, accusing him of failing to repay the money he had borrowed from him.
However, no one knows how much money the deceased owed the suspect.
According to Superintendent of Police (S) Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga regional police spokesperson, the suspect fled to his home district in Kapchorwa after stabbing the deceased.
“Our team at Lira Central Police Station got in touch with the police in Kapchorwa and immediately arrested him on arrival and he is being held in Kapchorwa as I speak now,” Okema told journalists in Lira City in Uganda on Tuesday.
He stated that plans are being made by territorial police in Lira City to pick up Chelangat from Kapchorwa so that his case can be handled in Lira, where he committed the crime.
Bonny Fedhenand Okello Alele, the institution's executive director, did not answer repeated calls or respond to messages left on his known mobile number, according to reports.
