Students In Wuhan Resume School

Chinese students in the province of Wuhan, the epicentre of the coronavirus pandemic, have resumed classes on Wednesday, donning masks and walking past thermal scanners while on a single line.

A Weibo user, a Chinese messaging platform, exclaimed, “School is finally reopening!” 

“This is the first time that I’m so happy to go back to school, although I have to sit a monthly examination on the 8th.”

Classes saw students' desks separated 3.3 feet apart.

The resumption of classes in the city is one among the many moves initiated by the government in the easing into regular activities in the region.

A 76-day lockdown was imposed on the city by Chinese authorities after the outbreak of the coronavirus in the city late last year, only reopening the city in April.

The resumption of school activities was reserved for older students, comprising seniors and vocational students who are scheduled to take their university entrance exams.

Resumption dates for junior and middle school students are yet to be announced, although, some areas have allowed their kids to return to their classrooms.

Local authorities say that before any student or educator is allowed on campus, they must have undergone a virus test, with all school campuses being disinfected.

At Wuhan No. 17 Middle School, armed security officers could be seen standing guard at the entrance, while other school entrances saw officers standing guard.

Other provinces in China have seen a gradual reopening, with Shanghai and Beijing allowing some of their students back to school.
