    Students, Staff Of Dowen College Exonerated From Sylvester O

    Lagos State Government, through the Director of Public Prosecution, has exonerated students and staff of Dowen College linked with the death of 12-year-old Sylvester Oromoni, who died on November 30, 2021.

    Among those who were cleared include the manager of the school building, Kingsley Otuaro, Celina Uduak, Valentine Igboekweze, Hammed Ayomo Bariyu, Adesanya Olusesan Olusegun and one Adeyemi.

    The students who were cleared by the state government through the Director of Public Prosecution are Favour Benjamin, aged 16, Edward Begue, aged 16, Ansel Temile, aged 14, Kenneth Inyang, aged 15 and Micheal Kashamu, aged 15.

    According to PUNCH, the State directed that any of the suspects who is still in custody be released.

    As widely reported, Oromoni allegedly died from injuries sustained in an attack by five senior students of the school for allegedly refusing to join their cult.

    According to the father of the deceased, his child was beaten and fed a liquid chemical.

    Prior to Sylvester's death, the school had called the father to inform him that his son sustained injuries while playing football with his colleagues.

    The liberation of the suspects was contained in a Legal Advice of the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution, Adetutu Oshinusi obtained by PUNCH. 

    "The interim and final autopsy report issued by the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital and toxicology report of post mortem samples and that of the Central Hospital, Warri were in agreement as to the cause of death namely: Septicaemia, Lobar Pneumonia with Acute Pyelonephritis, Pyomyositis of the right ankle and Acute Bacteria Pneumonia due to severe Sepsis.

    "The result of the toxicology is also not indicative of any toxic or poisonous substance in the body of the deceased.

    “There is no prima facie case of murder, involuntary manslaughter and or malicious administering of poison with intent to harm against the five students.

    "From available facts in the duplicate case file, the investigation carried out by the Police did not reveal that any secret society name, tattoo or insignia of any unlawful society was found in the possession of any of the suspects during the investigation carried out by the Police," the advice stated in part.
