The Honourable Minister of Youths and Sports and Sports Development Sunday Dare has eulogised the late fallen patriot Samuel Okwaraji who died while playing for Nigeria in 1990.
Samuel Okparaji was in action for the Green Eagles, now known as the Super Eagles in a 1990 World Cup Qualifying game at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos when he slumped and died.
The minister said the fallen hero will always be remembered for his dedication to service on the 33rd anniversary of his demise.
"Okwaraji's commitment to Nigeria and sacrifice anytime he was on the pitch in our green and white is a lesson on patriotism.
"We will always remember him for his zeal and service to Nigeria and sadly the way he died defending our national colours.
He has also urged Nigerian sportsmen and women to emulate Samuel Okparaji.
"This is a challenge to every one of us, administrators and active sportsmen and women to always put this nation first in all we do," the Minister said
The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development placed his mother, Lady Janet Okwaraji on a monthly support stipend until she passed on in 2020.
