Sunday Dare Labels National Youth Games ‘Beacon of Hope’

Nigeria's Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare has labelled the 7th edition of the National Youth Games (NYG) a beacon of hope.

Dare announced that this year's edition of the sports fiesta will hold in Delta State from February 8 to 18.

According to him, the Hosting Right was awarded to Delta state at a meeting of stakeholders for the Games, which was held on the sidelines of the recently concluded 21st National Sports Festival.

He disclosed in a letter to all states that the recent successes recorded by the country at the international level is as a result of products of the NYG. 

"The NYG has become a beacon of hope for the future of our sports. Its product has been largely responsible for most of the recent successes the nation has witnessed at international sports competitions,” Dare said.

The minister gave assurances that the 7th edition will be bigger and better, as he encouraged all states to support their contingents to the Games.

He urged States to provide insurance covers for its contingents for the duration of the games, as part of the requirements for participation.

The Games will feature 29 sports which include athletics, football, basketball, volleyball, chess, fives, scrabble, gymnastics, golf, shooting, swimming, badminton, hockey, para-sports, and squash, amongst others.
