Super Eagles' Bonaventure Set To Be Crowned League Winner Wi

Nigerian duo, David Okereke and Emmanuel Bonaventure Dennis of Club Brugge are set to be crowned champions of the Jupiler Pro League, the top tier of Belgian football, Allnews reports.

This comes after the league on Thursday became the first major European domestic football competition to be cancelled.

The Belgian Pro League board proposed the immediate conclusion of the country's football season.

It would make Belgium the first European country to end its top-flight season which would see Super Eagles striker, Dennis' Club Brugge crowned as champions.

The board's recommendation now just needs to be endorsed at a general assembly meeting on 15 April, a process that is understood to be a formality.

It is noteworthy that the Belgium league enters into a playoff system after 30 games. With teams having played 29 of those games.

This effectively means that Belgian officials have cancelled the playoffs with the league called to an end with the current league standings becoming final.

Brugge, steered by Philippe Clement, are comfotably perched atop the log.

Crucially for other European leagues the Jupiler League has not been annulled which falls in line with a recent commitment by UEFA to the completion of leagues across Europe, including the Premier League.

Leagues across Europe have been put on hold due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, a disease that has claimed the lives of over 50,000 people globally.
