Super Eagles can win World Cup qualifying games - Finidi

Embattled Super Eagles head coach Finidi George believes that the team can still qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite three draws and one defeat after four matchdays in the qualification campaign.

The Cheetahs of Benin Republic humiliated three-time African champions, Nigeria with a 2-1 win in Abidjan on Monday evening to consign the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations runners up to 5th place in Gropu C.

Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika's goal was cancelled by Jodel Dossou and Steve Mounie but Finidi found strenght to speak as Nigerians rue the abysmal performance of the team in their June games.

"It's to win but there's no special formula for that. We have to see how the players will start the new season and see how we can get the best out of the players," the former Enyimba coach told reporters.

"Everybody must be committed, with that commitment we'll win games. I believe we're going to win games and if we can win games the battle will still be there.

"We cannot throw in the towel because we have had only three points. We have to find a way to get these players back in a way for them to perform."

The Eagles will have to win the remaining six games in the qualifiers and hope other resuts in the group go their way.
