Super Eagles Coach Jose Peseiro has revealed that his target is to win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations trophy in Cote d'Ivoire.

The Portuguese manager is preparing the team for the friendly against Algeria on Tuesday in Oran.

He noted that the test game is important in other to prepare the team to go all the way in Cote d'Ivoire.

“It feels good, and I’m happy for the opportunity to play against Algeria because we need to improve our national team,” Peseiro told NFF TV.

“I repeat, I want to win the next AFCON, and for that, we need to improve our national team, we need to improve our dynamics, we need to improve our organization in and outside the field.

“You need to create a connection with the players, create a relationship inside and outside the field for the players to build a great national team, so that’s our goal.“

The former Ah Ahly manager also revealed how he and his coaching crew monitor Nigerian players all around the globe.

"We have many good players, so I believe we can achieve success with our national, which made me say I want to win the AFCON because I know the players.

“Me and my staff, I keep watching many matches around the world concerning the performance of the players, and as I said, the national team is open for everybody.“

Peseiro further shed light on Wilfred Ndidi's injury, which has ruled him out of the encounter against Algeria.

”When Ndidi came, the fitness coach at Leicester communicated with our fitness coach because we have that relationship with them, so he said Ndidi complained about a slight injury in their last match.

“So when he (Ndidi) came, he did training without intensity, did a small training but felt something in his hamstring, and did an MRI scan.

"So I decided it’s better we don’t use him because I am not going to use a player in a friendly when he can suffer more injuries,” Peseiro stated.

The Super Eagles will be without the likes of Ahmed Musa, Victor Osimhen,  Samuel Chukwueze, Emmanuel Dennis, and Leon Balogun for the friendly against the Desert Foxes.

Peseiro has won two out of his first four matches since he was appointed in May.

He lost his first two matches against Mexico and Ecuador before winning the next two against Sierra Leone and Sao Tome and Principe.
