Super Eagles Defender Omeruo Becomes Spanish Club Captain

Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo has added another 'feather to his cap' after he was named the captain of the Spanish club, Leganes.

Omeruo joined the club in 2018 on loan from Chelsea before making the move permanent in 2019.

He has now been rewarded with the captain's armband as he is one of the longest-serving members of the team.

The former Middlesbrough defender was part of the Leganes team that went down to the Spanish second division at the end of the 2019/20 season.

The club also announced four assistants alongside the Super Eagles defender.

The quartet of Juan Munoz Munoz, Jose Manuel Arnaiz, Sergio Gonzalez and Asier Riesgo have also been given leadership roles.

The 28-year-old will lead Leganes for the first time as a captain in their second division opener against Alaves on Saturday.

Omeruo has made 101 appearances for the club since joining in 2018 scoring four goals.
