Super Falcons Under No Pressure Ahead Of World Cup - Ebi

Super Falcons Under No Pressure Ahead Of World Cup - Ebi

Onome Ebi says the Super Falcons are not under any sort of pressure ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup in New Zealand and Australia.

The captain's comment is coming after the Falcons rounded off international duties in Turkey.

They traded tackles with Haiti and New Zealand as part of preparations for the World Cup, winning both games 2-1 and 3-0 respectively.

This extended their unbeaten streak to three games having gone on a seven-game winless run which ended in February against Costa Rica at the Revelation Cup in Mexico.

Speaking to CAFonline.com, the experienced defender admitted that the Falcons are in a difficult group in the tourney but insisted that her side is calm about the matches they have to play to reach the last 16.

“We are aware that we are in a difficult pool,” said Ebi, who is set to participate in her last major competition with the Super Falcons.

"We have the reigning champions Canada who we have faced twice before, losing one and drawing one.

"Then we have Ireland and Australia who we have not played against.

“We know it will also be very tough against Australia because they will be playing at home.

"We are under no pressure, however, and we are calm about these matches.

"All of these teams have qualified and earned their right to be at the World Cup.

"We have to be ready to face them."

The nine-time African champions are in Group B with co-hosts Australia, Canada and the Republic of Ireland.

They will first meet Canada on July 21 before they lock horns with Australia on July 27 and Ireland on July 31.

The 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup is billed to begin on July 20 and end on August 20.
