Supplementary Election: Fintiri Appeals For Calm Amid Tension

Supplementary Election: Fintiri Appeals For Calm Amid Tensio

Following the announcement of the outcome of the Adamawa State gubernatorial election, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has called for calm among the people of the state.

There has been growing tension in the state following the announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Mallam Hudu Yunusa Ari.

In a Press Conference on Sunday, Governor Fintiri said that the announcement made by the REC is provocative and goes against democratic principles.

He urged the people of the state to remain peaceful and law-abiding while the situation is being resolved.

The governor reminded the people of the state that the election had been inconclusive after the first round on February 18, 2023, due to confusion aided by the same group responsible for the illegal announcement.

He also noted that the rerun was held peacefully on April 15, 2023, and that the collation process had begun.

However, just when the collation process was about to resume on April 16, the REC made an illegal announcement of the outcome of the election without the necessary collation of results.

The governor assured the people of the state that he would ensure that nobody thwarts their democratic rights and that the right thing will be done.

He thanked the people of the state for their resilience and resolve to protect their democratic rights and urged them to remain peaceful and law-abiding.

Governor Fintiri called on everyone to trust that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will do the right thing by concluding the collation at the designated location and declaring a winner.

He also reminded the people of the state that the world is watching "the enemies of democracy at the height of their shameless brigandage" and that nobody should take the law into their hands.

The governor believes that INEC understands that the integrity of the commission is on test, and he urges everyone to wait for the next directive from INEC.

Fintiri assured the people of Adamawa State that he would do everything in his power to ensure that justice is done and that their democratic rights are protected.

He called on everyone to remain calm and peaceful while the situation is being resolved.

"This morning we all woke up to an illegal announcement by merchants of anarchy headed by the Resident Electoral Commissioner - Mallam Hudu Yunusa Ari, who since the beginning of this election is bent on pushing our collective patience to its limit.

"This action is no doubt provocative, but in this situation, I appeal for calm as always.

"I assure you that as your leader, I will ensure NOBODY thwarts your democratic rights," he said.
