Supreme Court affirms Kefas as duly elected governor of Tara

The Supreme Court on Thursday affirmed Governor Agbu Kefas as the duly elected governor of Taraba State in the 2023 governorship elections.

The court in a unanimous decision dismissed the appeal by the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) and its candidate, Professor Yahaya Sani for lacking merit.

Sani had in his appeal asked the apex court to set aside the victory of Governor Kefas as the elected governor of the state on March 18, 2023, alleging that the election was full of irregularities and in noncompliance with the Electoral Act.

Meanwhile, the Appeal Court sitting in Abuja had dismissed the appeal by Sani, upholding the judgement by the Election Petition Tribunal which affirmed Kefas as the governor of the state.

Governor Kefas had in the March 18, 2023 governorship election polled 257,926 votes, defeating the NNPP's Sani who polled 202,277.
