Supreme Court Strikes Out Appeal Challenging Duoye Diri's Candidacy At 2019 Bayelsa Election

Supreme Court Strikes Out Appeal Challenging Duoye Diri's Ca

The Supreme Court has thrown out Appeal by Timi Alaibe challenging Duoye Diri's candidacy as the governorship candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in November 2019 in Bayelsa.

Dismissing the case on Tuesday, the court explained that the issue brought before it by Alaibe was a pre-election matter.

The controversies surrounding the Bayelsa governorship election held in 2019 seems to have been brought to an end by the supreme court.

The battle which started out as an inter-party tussle after PDP lost the governorship election to APC's Davido Lyon in 2019, seemed to move in favour of the PDP after the Supreme court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare Diri the winner of 2019 elections in February on the ground that Lyon tendered a fake certificate to (INEC).

Following PDP's Supreme Court victory, Alaibe who was a contestant at the Party's Primary elections, however, rose to challenge the candidacy of Diri.
