2023 Elections: Boko Haram Terrorists Disrupt Voting In Born

Following the commencement of the 2023 presidential election, suspected Boko Haram terrorists disrupted voting in Gwoza local government area of Borno state.

The terrorists were reported to have fired a Rocket Propelled Launcher (RPG) at one of the polling units in the area.

The terrorists' attack disrupted voting as citizens ran for safety on Saturday.

Sources revealed that before the attack, voting had commenced peacefully and people came out in their numbers to exercise their voting right.

Meanwhile, the Emir of Gwoza, Mohammed Shehu Timta, confirmed the attack to Daily Trust, adding that five persons were injured.

“Boko Haram insurgents launched an attack into the heart of the town, shooting sporadically.

"Five people sustained injuries.

"The injured have been taken to Maiduguri for medical attention.

“They came around 8:30 am, so voters had lined up for accreditation when the incident occurred, many voters that scampered for safety have not returned while we are making efforts to convince them to return", the Emir disclosed.

Gwoza is the hometown of Senator Ali Ndume but there has been no confirmation whether he was at the polling unit during the attack.

However, sources revealed that security agencies have already been deployed to the LGA to repel the attack.
