Suspected herdsmen

A farmer, Oghenevwoke Okpako has been reportedly killed in his farm in Abraka town in Ethiope East Local Council of Delta State,

It was learned that the deceased was killed in his farm on Wednesday, and was buried in a shallow grave.

Delta State Police spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bright Edafe, who confirmed the killing, said nobody knows those responsible for the killing.

However, some youths, who claimed the family was killed by herders, have gone after the herders and set ablaze about four motorcycles belonging to them.

Sources said the herders were rescued from the youths by the community leaders.

“The deceased went to the farm, but never returned home, and this led to the wife and the vigilantes in the town to start searching for him.

“He was called on his telephone but there was no response. They were said to have conducted a search on him but to their surprise, the deceased was found with machete cuts all over his body and was buried in a shallow grave,” the sources said.

According to the sources, the community’s President General, Deacon Stephen Avweneghagha, had cautioned the  youths against taking laws into their own hands.

He also regretted reprisal attacks on the herders.
