Sustain NYSC With Your Skills — Osun Coordinator

The Osun State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Agbor Ndoma Obim, has called on the serving corps to join their voice, skills and efforts in sustaining the lofty ideals and achievements of the Scheme, which their predecessors have done passionately over the years.

This is in view of the scheme celebrating the 50th year of its existence.

Ndoma made this known on Friday, during the swearing-in and official opening ceremony of the 2023 Batch A Stream II orientation course at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Ede.

"The Scheme is celebrating 50 years of her existence - 50 years of meaningful impact in the socioeconomic development of the nation, 50 years of integrating and uniting the nation through her programmes which have fostered inter-ethnic relationships, inter-ethnic marriages, cross-cultural movements and appreciation, free movement and provision of trained and qualified manpower across the nation, improving the quality of life of the people through the free healthcare programme tagged 'Health initiative for Rural Dwellers' and also reducing unemployment and underemployment among the youths through the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme of the Scheme, among others."

The Osun NYSC State Coordinator, who congratulated the corps members on the successful completion of their undergraduate degrees, added that the orientation programme prepares them for their unique role in nation-building.

Charging the corps members to be team players, Ndoma advised them to use the service year to distinguish themselves, as the NYSC has a system of rewarding hard work and diligence.

"I urge you to work towards distinguishing yourselves during the service year as the Scheme has a system of rewarding hard work and diligence.

"There are several awards reserved for outstanding performance, such as the State Coordinator's commendation, Chairman's Award, State Honours Award and Presidential Award. Therefore, ensure you start distinguishing yourselves right from the orientation programme for these awards," he said.

The Osun NYSC boss also charged the corps members to positively use their social media handlers as ambassadors of the scheme.

"Do not use your social media handles to spread hatred or peddle fake news but learn to preach love and oneness everywhere you go.

"As you navigate the first phase of the service year, I urge you to look inwards and begin to strategize on how you will contribute to the development of the people of the State rather than encumbering yourselves with bagatelles."

The swearing-in ceremony, which was supervised by Justice Ayotunde Oyeyemi Oyebiyi, had 1,803 corps members comprising 840 males and 963 females, with 700 dislodged from Lagos State.
