Swiatek Reaches Maiden Final In Madrid

World number one Iga Swiatek has reached her first-ever final in Madrid after cruising past Russian 12th seed  Veronika Kudermetova on Thursday.

The Pole won 6-1 6-1 to improve her head-to-head record against the Russian to 4-0.

She will next battle world number two Aryna Sabalenka in a second straight final showdown on Saturday.

Sabalenka brushed past Maria Sakkari 6-4 6-1 earlier on Thursday and is seeking to avenge her loss in Stuttgart.

"I want to play Swiatek. It's always great battles with her, tough matches and I like to be in a battle," the Australian Open champion told Prime Video after beating Sakkari.

The final will be the third time in the last 40 years that the world's top two will meet twice in the same season on clay after Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova in 2013, and Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert back in 1984.
