Swiatek Unsure Of Participating In 2023 Miami Open

Poland's Iga Swiatek says her appearance at the 2023 Miami Open to defend her title is in doubt as a result of a rib injury.

The world number one sustained the injury during a semi-final defeat at the BNP Paribas Open.

She was condemned to a 6-2 6-2 defeat by Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina who stopped her from reaching back-to-back Indian Wells finals.

"I feel like it's still more me and my mistakes," Swiatek said after failing to forge ahead in the competition.

"I'm also not feeling 100 per cent physically.

"I have a little discomfort in my rib, and we're going to consult with the medical team.

"For sure I’m gonna use these days off before Miami, so actually I have one more day."

When asked directly if her rib injury will prevent her from participating in Miami, the Pole said: "No, for now I'm preparing to play, but we'll see what the next days are going to tell us. I don't know yet."

Swiatek last year completed the 'Sunshine Double' having won both the Indian Wells and Miami Open.
