Three students suspected to have been involved in the alleged torture and beating of the late Sylvester Oromoni have been interrogated by the police.
The demise of 12-year-old Oromoni has led to the family hiring popular lawyer and human rights activist Femi Falana to prosecute the case against Dowen College, Lekki over the death of their son.
Per a Vanguard report, three students of the institution suspected to be behind the physical assault of Sylvester were at the State Criminal Investigative Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba in Lagos for questioning.
The students were invited by the Divisional Police Officer of Maroko Police Station and were later taken to the SCID where they were drilled concerning Sylvester's death.
The SCID was also involved in the interrogation and the students were accompanied to the police station by their parents and lawyers.
Reports have confirmed that as of Monday, December 6, 2021, at least 186,406 persons had signed a petition on the change.org platform demanding answers on the demise of Sylvester.
The signatories to the petition are also calling for swift prosecution of everyone involved in the assault on the late 12-year-old that led to his gruesome end.
The petition was started by The Irede Foundation with the title, ‘We Want Justice For Sylvester’. It is directed at decision-makers such as the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Obafela Bank-Olemoh, the Senior Special Assistant on Education Interventions to the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, and others.
The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) worldwide has announced a candlelight procession for Sylvester Oromoni.
The directive was given by the IYC President, Timothy Igbifa, who instructed all Ijaw youths around the globe to hold the procession by 7 pm on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, in honour of the late 12-year-old Dowen College student.
