Amid the ongoing debate surrounding the fate of Syrian refugees in Turkey, a significant number of refugees are quietly making the decision to return to their homeland.
The refugees, who fled the devastating civil war in Syria since 2011, are now gathering at the border as conditions in certain parts of their country have improved.
With the establishment of "voluntary return bureaus" in 12 provinces with high refugee populations, refugees have the opportunity to cross the border under the principle of "safe, voluntary, and dignified return," as stated by the Migration Management Directorate of the Interior Ministry.
With the support of Turkey, over 554,000 Syrians have already returned to their country.
This is particularly to areas that have been liberated from terrorist groups with the assistance of the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK).
The Turkish army has conducted operations such as Euphrates Shield, Olive Branch, and Peace Spring to ensure the safety of regions in Turkey’s north, which were under the constant threat of terror attacks from Syria.
