Take Home From The Outbreak And Subsequent Lockdown

Take Home From The Outbreak And Subsequent Lockdown

We are all currently under strain from our collective battle against the coronavirus pandemic in whatever way that we can, to, at least, keep ourselves alive after this shit show blows over, and head back to the toils that come with being extant.

Side Note: This article seeks to find humor amid this pandemic madness and in no way seeks to diminish the gravity of the ongoing health crisis.

Over the course of the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, a truckload of events have happened, and these are some of the things I will be highlighting, hopefully, they are relatable, and they are some observations you have made yourself.

So many countries have issued a directive stating that activities in cities be shut down, except for businesses that provide essential services, yeah, we have seen the words "essential and non-essential services" being used a lot in the news.

Millennials are complaining about having to stay at home because they can't be too bothered to be boxed up by some, as erroneously described, "flu."

A quick rundown on some coronavirus facts:

Global Cases: 1,784,331

Global Death Toll: 108, 962

Recovered: 405,043

(Data from Worldometers)

What events have taken place so far? And what events could take place during this lockdown season? Let us find out.

1. Celebrities and non-functional politicians realize that they are not immune to nature's mischief and whims.

2. Trump sent some people to their early deaths by stating that a particular drug, whose effectiveness against the virus was yet to be fully reviewed by medical professionals, could cure the virus.

3. African governments are slowly waking up to the importance of channeling funds into critical sectors of their economies.

4. Pastors, again, have erred on the side of reasoning and honesty, causing every other spectator of the show to wonder what the hell the tithers are still doing.

5. The empathy bank of Nigerian politicians has really depleted; re: 400 exotic cars for people who really have no need for such unaffordable luxury at a time like this.

6. The game of "who is wiser" between the Nigerian political elites and the citizenry; re: Buhari's edited or non-edited speech. Well, who knows? We can only guess.

7. The advancement of the tired and uninteresting political agendas of Nigerian politicians.

8. This virus has certainly exposed the pious recklessness of Nigerians, and the total obliviousness and/or disregard of the theory of natural selection by the Nigerian religious. Re: Katsina prayer interrupted by the police, and a large prayer organized by muslim clerics in Abuja, with the crowd spilling onto the highway, causing traffic at Nyanya, Abuja during lockdown.

9. Accident rates across the globe will drop, at least this period.

10. The need for our government to ramp up work on raising the standard of education in the country because as it seems, this current standard is not updated on the pronunciations of trendy words like COVID-19 and coronavirus; we all know what I am alluding to.

11. Nigerians aren't tired of being angry, they can't afford to, everyday situations in the country keep that anger at the forefront of their minds. They may, for a moment, let down their placards, but that anger is set to resound louder than the previous one, and the call for the current leader of the country to lay down his title is something that keeps getting chorused by a burgeoning number.

12. Fathers will get more acquainted with their kids, hopefully.

14. Working from home is bae. Employers will come to the realization that working from home can also lead to more productive work, in some cases, at least.

15. 'Warring' couples can use this period to work on their marital issues, seeing as they will be cooped up in their homes for a while, it will be time to lay out those issues and set yourselves straight, if anything, for both your sanities and the sake of working on yourselves before you are let out into the world again.

16. Churches and many organizations will appreciate the beauty of virtual gatherings and e-wallets.

17. You may not identify with this, but some Nigerians now are aware of the existence of a center for disease in the country. NCDC away!
