Take NCDC's Stats With A Pinch Of Salt - Tomori

The Chairman of the National Technical Committee on COVID-19, Oyewale Tomori, said that Nigerias should take the NCDC COVID figures with a pinch of salt.

Tomori said this on Tuesday at the Annual General Meeting of the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria, at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, chapter.

The theme of the meeting was ‘Science and Mis-Science of COVID-19’, with Tomori stating that the reality in the country was in contrast with the figures of the centre.

He said, “The NCDC told us that we reached our peak in July, and the infection rate has been declining; we need to take this with a pinch of salt.

“The NCDC gives us figures without giving us the details of what is happening.”

Speaking on the preciseness of the daily numbers released by the centre, the Chairman of the UCH Response Team on COVID-19, Kayode Osungbade, said that there were doubts concerning the accuracy.

He also stated that the move to reopen certain sectors of the economy like the airports, clubhouses and schools was a "threat".

He said, “Reopening the airports, the schools, the universities, and clubhouses is a threat.”
