Taliban Arrest Professor For Criticizing Afghan Government

A popular university professor and critic of the Afghan Government has been arrested by the Taliban.

Professor Faizuallah Jalal is being held by the Taliban’s intelligence arm over his remarks on social media, which they alleged was provocative against the government.

In a tweet on Sunday, his daughter Hasina Jalal pleaded for her father’s release. She wrote;

"I ask for the immediate release of my father, Professor Faizuallah Jalal."

Also, TOLO TV, a station Jalal was a commentator tweeted about Jalal's arrest.

"He's been arrested for reportedly making allegations against the government departments," they tweeted.

Jalal is married to one of the country’s first female presidential candidates, Masooda Jalal, who ran against former President Hamid Karzai in the 2004 presidential elections.

In August last year, the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan, following America’s departure after nearly 20 years of war.
