Tambuwal Describes Forces Behind Destabilisation Of Nigeria

The Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, has called for support against "evil forces" trying to destabilise the  President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

He said that that Nigerians need to band together as a people and "as leaders" to support the effort of the Federal Government in restoring peace in volatile parts of the country.

“We must work together as people and as leaders and support the federal government to establish peace in troubled areas across the country."

Tambuwal said this during the reception of the Shehu of Bama Monday.

He described those trying to upend the peace of the nation as "evil forces" that must be "overcome".

“We will continue to support the President to overcome evil forces who are all out to destabilize our nation,” he said.

He added, "You must support your brother, Governor Babagana Zulum, and the federal government for all that they have been doing to stabilise the state and the country.”

Tambuwal's Stance on State of the Nation

The governor, has, over the past few weeks, spoken up against some of the ills in the country, decrying the state of the nation.

He noted the lack of growth in Nigeria in terms of human development indices since the country gained independence in 1960.

He charged lawyers to speak up and ensure that the rule of law is promoted and that the society is shepherded "in accordance with the laws".

Tambuwal railed against arbitrariness in governance, urging the lawyers to use their legal powers to "fight arbitrary exercise of power by elected leaders".

He said, “As lawyers who are trained to promote the rule of law and ensure that the society is governed in accordance with the laws, we have a burden of responsibility to speak out on the side of the people.

“For far too long, our continent has continued to lag on all known indices of human development. Yet, after over 60 years, after political independence, Africa ought to have made the desired impact. Regrettably, we have continued to wallow in economic underdevelopment.

“We must, therefore, say no to arbitrariness in governance. Given our training as lawyers, we are better positioned to fight against arbitrary exercise of power by elected leaders in the continent.”
