Ten people were killed and multiple injured, including emergency workers, when a fuel tanker exploded in Johannesburg on Saturday morning.
According to Ekurhuleni Emergency Services spokesperson William Ntladi, eight people died and dozens more were injured.
A petroleum tanker burst on Railway Street in the Boksburg Area, south of Johannesburg, according to Emer-G-Med spokeswoman Kyle van Reenen.
By 12:30, eleven people had been killed and several more had been wounded, including six firefighters. It is suspected that among the injured are children.
Several persons who were badly injured were evacuated to various hospitals.
Meanwhile, the explosion wounded patients at Thambo Memorial Hospital. The hospital was also badly damaged.
While emergency personnel are still on the scene, the hospital is CLOSED to the public.
