Troops of the Nigerian Army 6 Brigade, Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, have arrested a fake recruitment official attempting to scam aspiring recruits in Taraba State.

The arrest followed the assessment visit by the 6 Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa to the recruitment center at the 114 Battalion Jimilari.

The army in a statement on Saturday said: "The imposter was arrested today, 22 June 2024, as he tried to collect money from hopeful recruits, promising them guaranteed entry into the Nigerian Army. 

"The swift action of the troops thwarted his plans, protecting the candidates from falling victim to fraud."

While addressing the candidates, the Brigade Commander assured them of a fair and transparent process, emphasizing on a selection based on merit.

He said: "We are committed to maintaining a level playing field for all candidates. Our recruitment will be based solely on merit, and we will not tolerate any fraudulent activities."

He equally cautioned the candidates against payment to anyone who promised to help them scale the recruitment screening, emphasizing that the recruitment was free.

He further commended the vigilance of the troops for the successful arrest of the suspected imposter, adding that the integrity of the recruitment process was a top priority of the Nigerian Army.

Brigadier General Uwa assured that the suspect would be handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation and prosecution.

He also urged the candidates and members of the public to report any suspicious activities related to the recruitment exercise, and emphasized that the move will help to ensure that the most qualified candidates get recruited.
