Taraba Government Set To Privatise 'Highland Tea', Others

Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State

The Taraba State Government has said that it will privatise all its companies in order to build new ones.

This was disclosed by the Managing Director of the Taraba State Investment and Property Development, Ezekiel Iliya today (Wednesday) in Jalingo, the state's capital.

Iliya said it was the duty of the state agency to build government corporations and privatise them when they are fully developed.

He explained that the most common policy to be used in sustaining public business is the privatisation.

According to him, the state government would soon privatise the Taraba Beverages Nigeria Limited producers of Highland Tea.

As reported the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Iliya explained that: “We are not selling the company in its entirety but to transfer ownership structure from government to private individuals.

“We are selling 75 per cent of its shares and 25 per cent will be owned by the government.

“We will ensure that it’s capable hands that will take over the company to ensure it sustainability."

While commending the Taraba state governor, Darius Ishaku for his foresight, he further stated that in a move to privatise the Green House, producers of Taraba Vegetables, the government has commenced repairs of the company.
