The Taraba State Police command has confirmed that among the victims killed by gunmen were a lecturer from the Federal University Wukari and the deputy registrar of the Taraba State School of Health Technology, Takum.

The incident, confirmed by the acting Police Public Relations Officer of the Taraba State Police Command, DSP Kwache Gambo, on Monday, claimed the lives of six passengers and their driver at a boundary area between Taraba and Benue states.

The report also stated that a secondary school principal, who was recently transferred from a school in Takum to another in Wukari Local Government Area, was also among those killed. He was reportedly on his way to assume his new duty when the attack occurred.

Gunmen attacked passengers travelling along the Takum-Wukari road in Taraba State on Monday morning.

The Federal University Wukari lecturer was said to be returning to Wukari after spending the weekend with his family in Takum.

The victims were all indigene of the town, and their deaths led to heightened tension in the community.

Moreso, soldiers are said to have been deployed to patrol the area to restore calm and prevent further unrest, as the residents call for increased protection of travellers and a more robust security presence.
