Taraba sets up task force to enforce ban on motorcycles

Taraba State Governor Dr Agbu Kefas has set up a Task Force Committee on the total ban of the use of motorcycles and the control of tricycles in Jalingo, the state capital.

Members of the committee include representatives from the police, Road Safety, NSCDC, NURTW, Taraba Marshall, government and the NDLEAD.

The chairman of Keke operators in Taraba State, Abdullahi Bello urged members to remain calm as the government sets up the task force committee to control their activities.

The state government had earlier announced the total ban on the use of motorcycles in Jalingo, effective from Monday, February 22, 2024.

The government further restricted the operations of tricycles from 6 am to 8 pm.

The decision was taken after an emergency security meeting presided over by Deputy Governor Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Alkali on behalf of the state Governor Dr Agbu Kefas.

According to Koku Agbu Koku, Secretary of the Security Committee, the measures were taken as the result of the sudden spike in the activities of criminals in Jalingo, the State Capital.

The statement further said Defaulters will be arrested and tried by the Mobile Court stressing that the Motorcycles and Tricycles will be confiscated and destroyed.
