Teachers Are Agents Of Positive Change, Nation Building —

In the celebration of the 2022 World Teacher's Day, some stakeholders in the education sector of Delta State have described teachers as powerful agents of positive change and nation-building.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NANS) in different interviews, the stakeholders said teachers are saddled with the responsibility of moulding characters, enforcing values and imparting in students to secure the future of the country.

Shola Daibo, the state’s Commissioner for Technical Education, said teachers were role models in classrooms and play an important role a nation building.

“Teachers play a vital role in nation building, as they help nurture desirable, useful and purposeful children to take up leadership positions in the country.

“In recent times, teachers have developed themselves with modern approaches for effective transfer of knowledge. Therefore, they have the capacity to make Nigeria a powerful and well-educated country, “she said.

The commissioner advised teachers to abide by the laws guiding their profession, stressing that the future of the nation was in their hands.

Reginald Bayoko, Head of Service, Delta State, also maintained that teachers hold the second position in the life of every child after their biological parents, adding that every teacher passed through a teacher.

Sunny Ogwu, the Executive Chairman, Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) lauded teachers for being positive agents of change and development in society, focusing on the Primary School as the cradle of education.

He further urged them to discharge their duties with commitment and dedication.

“I congratulate the teachers for the implementation of the N30,000 minimum wage for them in the state, beginning from November.

“I urge them to reciprocate the gesture by being committed and dedicated to their job,” he said.

Rose Obi, Chairman National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, Uvwie Local Government Area, said the Teacher's Day is “a day to celebrate teachers, identify their challenges as well as resolve issues in the teaching profession.” 

Oritseweyimi Eboh, Chairman Association of Private School Owners of Nigeria, however, said teachers were not happy, seeking improved welfare for the educators.

The 2022 Teacher's Day was celebrated On October 5, 2022, with the theme “Transformation of Education Begins with Teachers”.
