6,000 shortlisted candidates have on Tuesday taken an aptitude test prepared by the Kogi State union as part of the teachers' recruitment process in the state.
Speaking to the candidates, the State's Commissioner For Education, Science and Technology , Wemi Jones, encouraged them to put in their best in the examination, noting that those with the best performance will be employed on merit.
According to him, 2,000 teachers will be employed by the government in the first batch and resume duties in the new session.
He lauded the State Governor, Yahaya Bellow for prioritising education in Kogi.
The Executive Chairman, Kogi State Science Technical Education and Teaching Service Commission (STETSCOM), Cecilia Cook noted that about 6000 candidates of 15000 applicants would participate in the test, adding that the exercise will extend till tomorrow.
The STETSCOM boss commended the governor for filling the vacancies in the schools in the state.
Ayo Thomas, a candidate who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) also lauded Governor Yahaya for employing more teachers in Kogi State.
”I applied as a Mathematics Teacher, and I believe I will perform well in the aptitude test. We thank the government for the gesture,” Thomas said.
