Messaging chat app Telegram has introduced group video calling features to its mobile and desktop app limited to the first 30 people that joined the chat.
The development of the feature was first announced back in April with the aim of competing with other platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and many others.
Voice chats in any group on the platform are unlimited and can be turned into video calls by tapping the camera icon to turn on your device’s video and users can also share their screens during a video call.
The company plans to increase that limit “soon,” it said in its announcement. Telegram's introduction of group video calls will likely appeal to more users to switch to the platform
Telegram founder, Pavel Durov through his official Telegram channel, said that users will be able to share their screens during video calls and be able to apply noise cancelation, which will eliminate or reduce the level of background noise. Moreover, it’ll be end-to-end encrypted and will have support for mobile, desktop, and tablet computers.
“Screen sharing, encryption, noise-canceling, desktop and tablet support — everything you can expect from a modern video conferencing tool, but with Telegram-level UI, speed, and encryption. Stay tuned!”
Telegram added the video call feature to its platform, but the feature allows only two people to connect through video chat in August last year.
You can find full details of the new features and choose from several default options or create your own animated backgrounds.
