Telegram has confirmed the start of its $5 per month Premium subscription tier, higher maximum file upload size, faster downloads, more channels, and creative new stickers in a comprehensive blog post on Monday.
Uploads are now limited to 2GB, however, Premium customers can send files up to 4GB in size, which is useful for customers who transmit a lot of video or large ZIP files (all users can download those extra-large documents). Paid users will also be able to download media and files at full network speeds, rather than the slower speeds seen by free users.
The Premium subscription also allows customers to subscribe to 1,000 channels, create 20 chat folders with 200 chats each, add a fourth account to any Telegram app, pin 10 chats, and store up to ten favourite stickers. Customers will also receive one-of-a-kind stickers with full-screen animations viewable to all users, as well as one-of-a-kind reactions.
Voice-to-text transcriptions, chat management, longer bios, animated profile images, more characters for media captions, 400 favourite GIFs, up to 20 public t.me links, premium badges and app icons, and an ad-free experience are just a few of the additional features.
Telegram also included a number of new features for all users, including verification badges for public figures and organisations, public group join requests, better bots, improved chat previews on Android, improved external sharing on iOS and more.
It also revealed that, as of 2022, it was one of the most widely downloaded apps in the world, with 700 million monthly active users.
According to Telegram, the update is being rolled out in stages, so if you don't see it yet, "the new version will be accessible soon."
