Ten Actors Who Went Nude In Movie Scenes

Ten Actors Who Went Nude In Movie Scenes

When it comes to getting naked in front of a camera, Hollywood stars have all kinds of stories.

Most of our favourite actors have at one time or another let it all hang out in the nude or go through a choreographed sex scene, creating some of the most famous moments in movie history.

There are now intimacy coordinators who look out for the actors' well-being on set since the movie industry, especially Hollywood, has become much more experienced in managing such delicate sequences.

Nudity can add so much to a movie if everyone is on the same page, and we love hearing what the actors who have stripped off their parts have to say about the experience.

In this article, we will look at ten male actors who went completely nude in a movie scene and the name of the movie.

10. Chris Pine

Movie: Outlaw King
Released Year: 2018

Chris Pine wasn't hesitant to commit to a part in the 2018 film Outlaw King.

According to Vulture, "Pine emerges from the lake naked, before hastily putting on his whatever-the-medieval-word-for-underwear-is."

Even though the sequence is brief, it was much discussed when the film was released.

"People were giggling over my penis like they were schoolchildren," Pine told The Guardian.

"I think it's the dying embers of this Calvinistic belief that self-flagellation, humiliation, rage, and violence are all desirable, but sex and intimacy, making love, are evil.

And it presents itself in us all chuckling at a penis - it's so ridiculous", he further stated.

9. Mark Ruffalo

Movie: In The Cut
Released Year: 2003

In 2003's In the Cut, Mark Ruffalo donned his birthday suit while filming a sex scene with Meg Ryan.

Ruffalo also discussed filming the sequences with Entertainment Weekly.

Jane Campion, the director, "wanted the character to be such a competent and confident lover that she kept saying things like, 'You're not at school anymore.

"You know what you're doing," Ruffalo said. "It was quite stressful."

8. Bradley Cooper

Movie: Nightmare Alley
Released Year: 2021

Bradley Cooper was open about being completely naked for one of his scenes in the 2021 thriller Nightmare Alley.

"I can still remember that day, simply being nude in front of the crew for six hours, and Toni Collette's first day," the actor said on KCRW's The Business. "It was like, 'Whoa.'" It was quite heavy."

Cooper also discussed his approach to the film and philosophy.

"The content of the movie, what we were exploring, needed that we are soulfully and emotionally naked to accomplish it in a true sense."

7. Oscar Issac

Movie: Scenes From A Marriage
Released Year: 2021

Oscar Isaac discussed the nudity sequence he made for HBO's adaptation of Scenes From A Marriage on The View on October 15, 2021.

"I was astonished since I didn't expect it to happen," the actor explained to the co-hosts.

"You get sent the stuff to look at and say, 'OK, that's great with me.'

"I watched it on a dark laptop and didn't realise what was going on down there.

"When I first started seeing these things, I was surprised, like, 'It's full frontal.' No, no, no! What are you on about?

"Then I saw it on the large screen there. It is available to everyone."

Isaac’s co-star, Jessica Chastain, also chimed in to say that she wanted the nudity on the show to be equal.

“Well, I said to Hagai, who wrote and directed the series, I said in the very beginning, ‘I’m comfortable with all the nudity, but any part of my body that you show, you’re going to have to show the same with Oscar,’” Chastain shared on the view.

“There’s a shower scene we have in Episode 2, and you see my body, so you see his body. For me, I wanted it to be balanced.”

6. Matt Damon

Movie: Behind The Candelabra
Released Year: 2013

Matt Damon is one of Hollywood's more conservative actors when it comes to nudity.

However, there is one where he decided to expose everything.

He believed it made sense in recounting the narrative of Liberace and his lover, Scott Thorson, in Behind the Candelabra.

“Normally I’d say no to nudity, but I just did a lot of it playing the long-term partner of Liberace, Scott Thorson, in Behind the Candelabra, he explained to Playboy.

“I mean, it’s tastefully done. Steven Soderbergh directed it, and Michael Douglas plays Liberace. But this movie’s not going to be for everyone.”

5. Leonardo Dicaprio

Movie: Wolf Of Wall Street
Released Year: 2013

The Wolf of Wall Street antics of Leonardo DiCaprio involved a lot of drug-sniffing, drink-chugging, and, yes, full-frontal nudity.

And the Departed star didn't shy away from explaining that he did not hire a body double, telling Extra: "It was all me, friend. "I did all of the floppings around."

“Look, when you do a character like this, you have to go all out,” he added. “You can’t pull any punches.

"You have to swing for the fences. You just gotta do it. You can’t think about yourself because it’s not me. It’s a depiction of somebody else…Hopefully, people enjoy it.”

4. Colin Farrell

Movie: A Home At The End Of The World
Released Year: 2004

Colin Farrell subsequently revealed to Ellen on her show, that his initial effort at a full-frontal nudity sequence was a flop.

"I went up to the director Joel Schumacher and I had on a dressing gown and nothing underneath,” he recounts.

“And I was so nervous that I lost my mind for a second cause I opened my dressing gown and I said, ‘It’s a bit, is it a bit…’ Cause I had, like most men, what you could refer to as ‘retro bush.'”

“I went into my trailer and I got a bin and I put it there. And I sat over the bin and I got the beard trimmer — I was nervous — and I trimmed the right side a little bit and had to match it, so I trimmed the left but I overshot the mark a little bit.

"So I had to go back in and trim the right again, and I overshot that.”

3. Ben Affleck

Movie: Gone Girl
Released Year: 2014

Ben Affleck's naked performance in Gone Girl was crucial in capturing the severity of the character

“This is a wart and all movie. It can have no vanity. You have to see the naked underbelly of this character,” he told MTV News.

2. Richard Gere

Movie: American Gigolo
Released Year: 1980

Richard Gere bares it all for American Gigolo and doesn't appear to be concerned about modesty.

"If I recall, (the nudity) wasn’t in the script,” he said. “It was just in the natural process of making the movie.”

“Not only did I have to do it again and again and again, but this was a scene in which I was running downstairs naked,” he told David Letterman, “which no one should ever do on camera.”

1. Mark Wahlberg

Movie: Boogie Night
Released Year: 1997

While Mark Wahlberg famously got naked to play an adult film star in Boogie Nights, his latest strip-down was actually at his wife’s behest.

Wahlberg offered full frontal nudity in exchange for cutting a graphic sex scene in 2011’s Broken City figuring his wife would be happier with the trade-off.
