Scent leaf, botanically known as Ocimum gratissimum, is a tropical plant species from the Labiatae family. 

Because of its distinct aromatic flavour, this home-grown shrub is primarily utilised as a spice in culinary dishes. Ocimum gratissimum is a species of Ocimum that goes by the names clove basil, African basil, and wild basil in Hawaii.

It is native to Africa, Madagascar, southern Asia, and the Bismarck Archipelago, with naturalisation in Polynesia, Hawaii, Mexico, Panama, the West Indies, Brazil, and Bolivia.
